Barry Davis was born in Harlem, N.Y. on January 11, 1967. Barry attended the NYC public school system where he developed a love for sports. During his elementary school years, he learned to play baseball and basketball and learned the fundamentals of sports. Barry played in many basketball tournaments as a teenager and truly enjoys the game. Barry attended Brandeis High School where he focused football, another sport in which he excelled. Barry was a star linebacker for the Buddy Youth League in Harlem. Barry earned his degree in Nursing from Rockland Community College and currently works as a field nurse.
Barry became associated with Gladiator Sports in 1999 when he and his wife, Adrian enrolled their son, Mike in the Kennedy Center Saturday Basketball Program. Barry played sports when he was younger and wanted to involve his sons in sports as well. When Gladiator Sports was established in 2002 Barry was asked to coach basketball. Barry was very reluctant because although he had the passion, he felt that he didn't have the skill set. In 2003, Barry began coaching the 16 - 18 year old division. Barry is a proud competitor who hates to lose. His teams reflected his attitude. Barry stresses the importance of fundmentals, teamwork and knowing one's role as a player. To prepare his teams to compete, Barry has been known to call several practices a week as his attention to detail is his staple. Co Founder Tony Afflick often jokes with Coach Davis telling him, "You know we are not paying you". Barry Davis is a welcome addition to the Gladiator Sports Hall of Fame.
